SUNBURN – SOME HOME REMEDIES FOR SUNBURN

Sunburn is experienced by almost everyone at some or the other point in life. Sunburn can be light as well as quite severe. The main cause of sunburn is inadequate protection from the harmful ultra violet rays. It is quite good to be careful next time and take precautionary measures. However, planning precautions does not soothe the stinging sensation and the pain that is characteristic of sunburn. One also is at risk of having skin cancer if sunburn is not treated properly. There are a few natural remedies that one can try to soothe and cure the sunburn. Here are some natural home remedies that have helped cure sunburn over the ages –sunburn1.jpg

1) Cool milk – milk has fatty and lactic acids which are very good for calming and comforting the sunburn skin. A soft cloth or a piece of cotton is soaked with cool and whole milk. The cloth is dabbed on the burn. This process should be repeated for at least 20 minutes and after the prescribed time it should be rinsed with cool water. It is very necessary that whole milk is used because of its fat content.

2) Sugarless tea – the tannin content in the tea actively helps in curing the burn. First a big pot of tea is brewed and the tea is allowed to cool down. After the tea has cooled down the burned area is splashed and sloshed with it using a sponge or a cloth. One can also pour the tea in to a spray bottle and spray the sunburn area with it. The tea bags are also very useful. One can use it for the affected area around the eyes. Tea helps in reducing the discomforts of sunburn quite effectively as they help in treating the damaged nerve endings caused by sunburn.

3) Aloe Vera – aloe Vera is quite a common content in treating sunburn. Not only it soothes the burned skin but it also accentuates the healing process. Although the aloe Vera cream is easily available in the market, directly extracting the gel from the aloe Vera plant works the best. The creams are more easily accessible and are quite good also but they do not produce the same effect as the naturally extracted gel.sunburn2.jpg

4) Water – one is also at a lot of risk of dehydration when suffering from sunburn. To prevent this one should drink a lot of water to ensure that there is no further complication of the situation.
