Homemade fog machine
Fog machines are getting very popular these days among the masses as artificial fog can be produced by this. This fog machine now can be manufactured at home. Thus this article gives an insight into the making and working of a fog machine.![]()
Making of the fog machine
Before setting out to make one fog machine one has to understand the principle behind it. The principle on which the fog machine works is very simple as when compressed air is blown into the mineral oil the outcome is a fog like effect. The primary thing required for the making is a plastic bucket. The plastic bucket should have a capacity of 2 gallons. The plastic bucket should have a snap on lid. There should be 2 feet of copper tubing that has to be bended. The bent on the copper tubing will make it sit on the bottom of the bucket. Then drill hole in the copper tubing so that it has a place of exit from the lid. The copper tubing is then clamped to the lid so that the tubing stay fixed in the position and does not move which can spoil the whole set up. The end of the copper tubing which is at the end of the bucket is being pinched closed. At this end there are several holes being drilled. Generally around 8 holes are being considered as good enough. The holes drilled should be very tiny. More the number of holes more would be the amount of air passing throughout it. This concept must be kept in mind while deciding upon the number of wholes at this end of the copper tubing. The fog is being generated through an ABS tee fitting. The same instrument helps in keeping away bubbling oil from the pipe. A suitable pipe can be attached to the tee in order to send the fog wherever desired. For this purpose even the black corrugated pipes can be used.![]()
The operation of the fog machine
First sufficient amount of mineral oil has to be put at the bottom of the bucket. The mineral oil put should cover the copper tubing. Covering of the copper tubing will not be difficult if it is properly placed at the bottom of the bucket. A source of compressed air has to be attached to the input of the copper tubing. After the air is pressed through the copper tubing the fog will start coming out in few seconds.
